Garmian- “Meryem House” has been opened in the Rizgari town of the Garmian region with the initiative of the German Aid Organization to collect and preserve the remains from the Anfal genocide.

Karin Mildox, president of the German Aid Organization, made a speech during the opening ceremony of the Meryem House. “The Meryem House was opened in the town of Rizgari to preserve the remains of the Anfal genocide. Our aim is to preserve the remains of the Anfal genocide as historical remains. Every year, we award some women and mothers who survived the Anfal genocide. This year, we awarded five women who survived the genocide,” she said in her speech.

The house was named after a woman named Meryem, who survived the genocide. In 1988, Meryem lost her fiancée in the Anfal genocide. She kept her wedding dress until 2006 and then donated it to the Sulaymaniyah Museum and she died in the same year.
