UNHCR: 170,000 People Displaced, Mostly Women and Children
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) revealed that approximately 170,000 people have been displaced from El Fasher in Darfur and parts of Kordofan in western Sudan due to the conflict.
Sudan – The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has stated that women and children constitute the majority of those displaced from El Fasher and Kordofan, amid dire needs for food, shelter, healthcare, and life-saving medicines.
According to the UNHCR's humanitarian report, thousands of displaced people are living in critical conditions due to funding shortages. They rely on self-help for transportation and spend days in the open without shelter, food, or protection.
Since the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) seized control of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, on October 26, 2025, approximately 100,000 people have been displaced to Tawila locality within the state, while others have sought refuge in the Northern State.
UN agencies report a sharp decline in international funding for humanitarian operations since the beginning of 2025, hindering their ability to respond to the crisis as the conflict in Sudan entered its 1,000th day in mid-January.
The escalation of fighting in the Kordofan region, following the Rapid Support Forces' (RSF) recapture of Bara on October 25, 2025, led to the displacement of thousands towards the cities of El Obeid, Kosti, Ad-Dabba, Khartoum, and Wad Madani.
Kadugli and its surrounding areas also witnessed large-scale displacement towards North Kordofan and White Nile states after the RSF and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) seized towns and villages and threatened to advance towards the cities of Dilling and Kadugli in South Kordofan.
