SIHA: An Award launched to Honor the Efforts of Women in Sudan and Celebrate their role
SIHA Network has launched an award titled “Woman on the Frontline” (#WomenForward) to honor their exceptional efforts and celebrate their role in the darkest moments.
Sudan – SIHA Network affirmed that Sudanese women have always been the backbone of their communities, in both peace and war. They stepped to the frontlines to protect their communities and provide aid to those in greatest need, despite facing displacement, loss, and violations.
The SIHA Network, representing women of the Horn of Africa, explained that amid the collapse of services and the absence of official response, Sudanese women ran community kitchens, established initiatives, and were at the forefront of volunteers providing food, care, and support—even while confronting conflict that directly targeted them.
The network highlighted that this award honors these exceptional efforts and celebrates women’s roles in the darkest moments. Six women from different regions and states were selected, in an attempt to shed light on a small part of a larger effort led by thousands of women, whose stories and contributions largely remain unseen.
SIHA Network will publish and share the winners’ stories on its Facebook page, showcasing their experiences in community work and the resilience they demonstrated under extremely harsh conditions.
