“March 8 is the birthday of women's freedom”

Jiyan Hisên, a member of the platform organizing activities and events for International Women’s Day in NE Syria, told us they have prepared many activities for Women’s Day. “The women's struggle in NE Syria led to the women's revolution. It is now possible for us to freely celebrate our day and protect the legacy of all our women,” she said.

Qamishlo- As International Women’s Day approaches, women in NE Syria, have made preparations for their day to protect the freedom and values of all women in the world. They define March 8 as the birthday of lasting freedom.

We spoke to Jiyan Hisên, a member of the platform organizing activities and events for International Women’s Day in NE Syria, about their activities on March 8.

“The revolution brings the women’s struggle to the fore”

Speaking about the importance of International Women’s Day for women, Jiyan Hisên said:

“After the revolution, we celebrate International Women’s Day with women all around the world. The revolution started in NE Syria brings the women’s struggle to the fore. This revolution protects women's legacy left for us. Women have made a great effort and paid prices to protect their rights. All women demanding freedom have played an important role in gaining achievements in NE Syria. We have faced many tragic incidents; women are still subjected to violence in the occupied regions but women still struggle to have lasting freedom. The struggle of women against all forms of violence and gender stereotypes in society continues and valuable results have been achieved so far.”

Jiyan Hisên also talked about their preparations for Women’s Day in NE Syria.

“All women living in NE Syria have worked hard to organize activities on March 8. The women's movement has a living soul. Our committees held meetings with all women’s organizations to determine a common program. The women are determined to have a free life. On March 8, we will hold many activities and events. We will announce our program soon. March 8 is the day of unity and freedom for all women. March 8 is the birthday of women's freedom. We wish a happy Women’s Day to all women.”
