Tunisian - The Association of Support for Initiatives in the Agricultural Sector (Appui aux Initiatives dans le Secteur Agricole- AISA) has launched a campaign in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation-Tunisia Office Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Foundation office in Tunisia on February 28. The campaign includes a demand to amend Articles 3 and 9 of Law No. 58 enacted in 2017 on the elimination of violence against women. The announcement of the campaign was made yesterday at a press conference with the motto, “Support for Women's Economic Rights: Inclusion of heritage within economic rights that must be protected by Act 2017-58 on the elimination of violence against women.”

“Women face violence when they claim their right to inherit”

Kalthoum Kennou, judge at the Court of Cassation and human rights activist, pointed out that the law should be amended so that women can have their rights. “Tunisian women face violence when they claim their right to inherit. Some of their family members always prevent them from having their right to inherit. They are often deprived of their right to inherit,” she said at the press conference.

“Steps should be taken”

Selwa Kno, president of the Association of Support for Initiatives in the Agricultural Sector, also made a speech. “Women living in villages face economic violence although they play an integral part in agriculture. Depriving women of their right to inherit is a crime. Steps should be taken for women to get their rights,” she said.
