News Center — In the wake of the attacks carried out by jihadists of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and mercenaries of the Turkish state against the regions of North and East Syria, voices of women from around the world are rising to denounce the silence of international authorities regarding what is happening.

Sue Bolton, a member of the Merri-bek City Council in Melbourne, Australia, and a member of the Socialist Alliance, stated that she feels deeply inspired by what is taking place in the predominantly Kurdish regions of Rojava.

She explained that the experience of building a new society in Rojava—based on rights and equality among all ethnic and religious groups, including women—serves as a global source of inspiration. “I think this is extremely inspiring at a time when world leaders are seeking to consolidate their power based on racist hatred against other groups, whether ethnic or religious, within society,” she said.

Bolton added that what is happening in Rojava reminds the world of the tragedies of genocide witnessed in countries such as Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Palestine, noting that the Kurdish people today are facing similar attempts of exclusion and oppression.

She emphasized the need for global solidarity with the people of Kobani and Rojava, adding, “You have been pioneers in the field of women’s rights, and you are able to surpass countries like Australia in what you offer to women. Long live Rojava, and solidarity with everyone struggling to save their community in Kobani.”

A Multiracial Women’s Revolution

For her part, Rachel Evans of the Socialist Alliance in Sydney stated that Rojava represents the first multiracial women’s revolution led by Kurds. “This revolution will inspire women all over the world to stand up against violence and oppression. That is why we must stand with Rojava. Let us protect what we have and spread the message of Rojava to the world.”

Meanwhile, Pip Hinman, editor of the Australian newspaper Green Left, expressed her desire to send a special message of solidarity to the women fighting to defend Kobani.

She highlighted the achievements of women in Rojava, saying, “They have shown the world how a socialist and feminist project can begin. I now feel that we are indebted and grateful—not only to the women fighters, but to everyone involved in this important and progressive new effort to build a new political system.”

“Our Government Must Condemn This Repression”

Pip Hinman stressed the necessity of condemning this brutality, stating, “It is now essential that our government rise up and raise its voice against this ongoing massacre targeting women, children, men, and everyone who tries to defend Kobani.”

Arlo, a member of the Socialist Solidarity movement in Sydney, expressed her love for Kurdish women, saying, “I send a message of solidarity to the people of Rojava, especially to the women who are defending the first women’s, socialist, and ecological revolution, and the freedom of women.”
