“An average of three women are killed every day”

Stating that women are ignored in the country, Ruken Ergüneş says, “Nearly three women are killed every day. One of the biggest problems in the country today is the systematic oppression and neglect of women.
“Protection orders don’t protect women”
Ruken Ergüneş states that Gülistan Şaylemez was killed in Diyarbakır on February 15 by her brother Abdullah Şaylemez, “A young woman named Gülistan was killed in Diyarbakır two days ago. The killed women got a protection order. We see that protection orders don’t protect women anymore. Every day, we receive news about femicide. The suspicious deaths of women and suicides among women are increasing in Diyarbakır. We receive the same news every day from other cities. We call it femicide. The abolition of the Istanbul Convention has become the main topic of conversation at every opportunity. What is going on is actually a message for men. We think men are encouraged to inflict violence against women.
“More women will be killed if we don’t stand side by side”
Ruken Ergüneş She calls on women to support women’s struggle against the system that considers women deserve violence against them. “Women bring democracy wherever they are. But men never accept being equal women. The current system supports them. They don’t hide femicide anymore. More women will be killed if we don’t stand side by side.”
