Riha - The sit-in protest, also known as “Justice Watch”, started in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were killed in the attack carried out on June 14, 2018, in the Suruç district of Urfa province by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who survived the attack, has entered its 417th day. The Şenyaşar family has been holding their protest during the month of Ramadan. The family has set a “Justice Table” in front of the Urfa Courthouse to break their fast since the beginning of Ramadan. Every day, dozens of people break their fast with the Şenyaşar family to be in solidarity with them. Yesterday, dozens of women broke their fast with the Şenayaşar family in front of the courthouse. They called on the Ministry of Justice to immediately meet Emine Şenyaşar’s demand for justice.

Dozens support the family every day

Kadriye Elmas was one of the women, who came to Urfa from Antep to break their fast with the Şenyaşar family in solidarity. “The government should hear the demand for justice,” she said, “Emine Şenyaşar struggles for justice here while she should stay at home and mourn. We are also mothers, her situation tear our hearts out.”

“They should stop tearing the mother’s heart out”

Kadriye Elmas called for solidarity for the family and said:

“We came from Antep to share Emine Şenyaşar’s pain and to be in solidarity with her in Ramadan. We support her struggle for justice. Justice should be immediately delivered to the family. At least, her son can be released from prison. The state should stop tearing the mother’s heart out so that she can stay at home with her children. We, as women, share the mother's pain and stand by her. We will continue to support the mother until justice is delivered.

“Everyone having a conscience and ethics should be in solidarity with Emine Şenyaşar”

Zekiye İlbasan told us she came to Urfa to support Emine Şenyaşar and called on everyone to be in solidarity with the family. “The family has held a sit-in protest against all injustices in Turkey. I don’t demand anything from the Ministry of Justice or government because if they had a conscience, they wouldn’t allow this mother to sit here in winter and summer.  But I want to call on everyone having a conscience and ethics to be in solidarity with Emine Şenyaşar, the Şenyaşar family. If we support each other, we will ensure justice.”
