Protest in prison against strip search

Women being held in the Diyarbakır Women's Closed Prison took off their shoes and walked to their wards with bare feet to protest strip searches after the contact visit.

News Center - Women being held in the Diyarbakır Women’s Closed Prison have been facing increasing pressure. On April 13 (Wednesday), the women took off their shoes and walked to their wards with bare feet by clapping their hands to protest the strip search they face after every contact visit.

According to the Etkin News Agency (ETHA), the women told their family members during the contact visit that they have been subjected to deliberately and arbitrary practices by the prison administration. The women told their relatives that the prison administration will be held responsible if more problems raise in the prison.

After the contact visit, the relatives of the prisoners requested to meet the prison director but their request was denied. The families reported the situation of the prisoners to the prison prosecutor and demanded the prison administration end the arbitrary policies.
