‘The co-presidential system is a strong response to the historic call’

“The co-presidential system protects all ethnic and religious identities. It is a strong response to the historic call,” said Welîda Botî, Co-chair of the Council of Religions and Beliefs in North and East Syria.

Hasakah- The co-presidential system implemented in North and East Syria has gone down in history as an important gain for women. Welîda Botî, Co-chair of the Council of Religions and Beliefs in North and East Syria thinks that strengthening this system is a strong response to the historic call of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

‘This system is a system based on the protection of identity and existence’

The co-presidential system has been a successful system for years, said Welîda Botî. “This system is a system based on the protection of the identity and existence of women, all ethnic and religious groups in North and East Syria. Many ethnic and religious groups having different cultures and traditions live in Syria. This system has been implemented so that everyone can express themselves in their own way and protect their existence.”

‘Society needs a democratic system’

Welîda Botî pointed out the importance of appreciating women in society and said, “For 5,000 years, a system has been ignoring societies and women for its own interests. The co-presidential system aims to revive the historical existence and identity of women. Women have important roles and missions in society, they represent their society. Therefore, society needs a democratic system, a co-presidential system, that gives women the opportunity to play their roles in all facets of life.”

Thanks to this system, women in North and East Syria have revealed their hidden power, Welîda Botî emphasized. “They now play a leading role in all facets of life, including politics, military and social life. The co-presidential system is a must to build a democratic society.”

‘Strengthening this system is loyalty to the call of leader Apo’

Welîda Botî expressed her support to the historic call of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan for “peace and democratic society” and said, “Strengthening this system is loyalty to the call of leader Apo. The co-presidential system is a solution to all problems, especially problems faced by women, in the world. If the diversity of ethnic and religious groups is ignored and not protected, we cannot say that there is democracy.”
