Portrait of the day: Cahide Sonku

Cahide Sonku was an actress, model, writer and the first female film director in Turkey. She started her theater career in the representation branches of the Community Centers. In 1932, the City Theaters were looking for students for the conservatory. She took the exam. After Muhsin Ertuğrul liked her, Sonku started working as an extra-intern. She performed in many movies and became popular. She won best actress award. She was the founder of her own movie production company, Sonku Film, in 1950. She died on March 18,1981 in İstanbul.
