Legislative proposal: 8th March should be declared as a ‘public holiday’

HDP Diyarbakır MP Semra Güzel has presented a legislative proposal to the Turkish Parliament for International Women’s Day, March 8 to be declared as a ‘public holiday’ in Turkey. “March 8 is a day when women come together against many rights violations such as discrimination, poverty, violence, oppression, and many more,” says Semra Güzel.
News Center-Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP Semra Güzel has presented a legislative proposal to the Turkish Parliament for International Women’s Day, March 8 to be declared as a public holiday in Turkey. Semra Güzel has also summited a parliamentary question about women’s labor and kindergartens during the Covid-19 pandemic to be answered by Minister of Family, Labor and Social Services Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk.
“March 8 is a day when women come together against many rights violations such as discrimination, poverty, violence, oppression and many more,” says Semra Güzel in the legislative proposal presented to the parliament demanding International Women’s Day to be declared as a public holiday.  
In the parliamentary question, Semra Güzel draws attention to the increasing unemployment among women during the Covid-19 pandemic and she asks questions to be answered by Minister of Family, Labor and Social Services Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk. Mentioning the latest report prepared by the Research Center of the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK-AR), Selma Güzel says the number of working women decreased by 867 thousand last year to 10 million 596 thousand and she notes that the number of working women decreased by 8.2 percent last year.
