Ankara- Gülistan Doku, a university student, went missing in Dersim on January 5, 2020. Her family has asked “Where is Gülistan?” since she went missing. Yesterday, her mother Bedriye Doku, her father Halit Doku, and her sister Aygül Doku requested a meeting with the Ministry of Justice. But newly appointed Minister of Justice, Bekir Bozdağ rejected to meet them because “he wasn’t available”. The family started a sit-in protest in front of the building of the Ministry of Justice requesting a meeting with the Minister of Justice to find Gülistan Doku. However, police attacked and detained them.

After being released, the Doku family went to their hotel. Then, they wanted to go in front of the ministry again but the police stopped them on Meşrutiyet Street. The family returned to the hotel again to wait for a response from the Minister of Justice.

Süleyman Soylu accused the opposition

After the Doku family had meetings with political parties in Ankara and was beaten by the police in front of the Ministry while waiting for a response from the Minister of Justice, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu released a statement on his Twitter account. In his tweet, he claims that “They have sincerely tried” to find Gülistan and accused the opposition parties of getting a “political rant” by bringing this issue to the agenda. “97 underwater and surface rescue teams, 545 personnel, 101 vehicles, 45 boats, 14 rows, 6 drones, 7 sonars, and 3 dogs participated in Gülistan Doku’s search efforts, which lasted 261 days,” he wrote.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) submitted a parliamentary inquiry to investigate the fate and whereabouts of Gülistan Doku; however, the AKP rejected the inquiry.
