Qamishlo (Qamishli)- The Center for Research and Protection of Women’s Rights was founded in North and East Syria in 2020 by a group of women lawyers defending women’s rights. The center aims to provide legal support to women in northeastern Syria and document rights violations against women.

“Our center has achieved many successes since its foundation,” said Şirin Jolly, a member of the center, which also organizes awareness-raising workshops and seminars for women. “We have carried out many activities for women in order to give information about their rights and about the Autonomous Administration (of North and East Syria).”

They develop projects with limited resources

The center also documents rights violations against women and children in northeastern Syria, Şirin Jolly emphasized. “We prepare reports on the incidents of violence, femicide, rape and kidnapping in the occupied territories and documenting these incidents is very important.”

The center also makes great efforts for the amendment of discriminatory laws against women. “We develop projects for rehabilitation and reintegration of women and children despite our limited resources.”

Since the fall of the Assad regime, many organizations have struggled to be legal organizations. “We aim to obtain a license from the relevant authorities in order to provide training courses to women and support them for their active participation in the new Syria,” said Şirin Jolly, emphasizing that people across Syria face rights violations. “We will continue to document these crimes.”
