25 Civil and Human Rights Organizations Call for International Solidarity with the Iranian People

In a letter addressed to international institutions, human rights organizations, and all humanitarian workers, 25 civil society and legal organizations called for cooperation and solidarity with the oppressed Iranian people against the criminal Iran.

News Center —Iranian authorities continue to carry out systematic violations against the population, most notably the violent suppression of protests, mass executions, arbitrary arrests, and severe restrictions imposed on women and minorities. These practices have placed Iran among the world’s leading violators of human rights, according to reports by the United Nations and international human rights organizations.

A group of Iranian civil society and human rights organizations issued a letter addressed to international institutions, human rights organizations, and all humanitarian actors, calling for “cooperation, solidarity, and assistance to the oppressed Iranian people against the criminal and brutal Islamic Republic.”

The letter, signed by 25 civil society organizations, campaigns, and legal and advocacy groups, called for freedom and the minimum standards of human rights. Among the demands of the Iranian people are protesting executions and repression and dismantling a backward, reactionary, and brutal regime.

The letter stated:

“To international institutions, human rights organizations, and all humanitarian workers:

We write to you to request your support, solidarity, and assistance for the oppressed Iranian people in confronting the criminal and plundering Islamic Republic. This regime has committed horrific acts of mass killing in Iran. In just two days, nearly 20,000 people were killed, and tens of thousands of protesters were arrested, many of whom are subjected to torture and extreme pressure in prisons, with many facing the threat of execution.

The authorities cut off the internet, shut down media outlets, completely isolated the Iranian people from the world, and sent their mercenaries to mercilessly kill protesters.

What are the demands of the Iranian people? Freedom and prosperity, the minimum standards of human rights, an end to executions and repression, and the overthrow of a backward, unjust, and barbaric regime that even permits the rape of children. They demand relief from soaring prices and extreme poverty that have turned basic survival into daily suffering for millions. The people have the right to rise up against oppressive rulers, and you are well aware that repression, injustice, and poverty in Iran have reached their peak.

We address you—labor unions and humanitarian organizations who have long stood alongside Iranian workers and people and supported their demands. Today, we once again urgently and broadly need your solidarity and your global condemnation of the inhumane Islamic Republic. You can play a vital role in pressuring governments and international authorities to isolate and boycott the Islamic Republic.”

The letter also addressed António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations and President of the UN Security Council; the UN Human Rights Council; Mai Sato, the UN Special Rapporteur on Iran; the Truth and Reconciliation Committee; the European Commission for Human Rights; international human rights institutions; and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

It emphasized that in the face of this criminal regime and the mass atrocities that have occurred and continue to occur in Iran—especially in recent days—issuing resolutions or statements of condemnation is insufficient. The signatories stated that the regime is killing its own people and must be prosecuted before international courts.

The signatories affirmed the following demands and urged international authorities to act decisively in defense of the oppressed Iranian people:

Holding leaders of the Islamic Republic and those involved in its apparatus accountable for crimes against humanity and war crimes before international courts.

Recognizing that the abundance of documented evidence—audio, visual, and testimonial—and the sheer scale of the crimes necessitate their classification as grave crimes under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, and launching formal investigations and prosecutions.

Calling for the abolition of the death penalty in Iran and the immediate release of all recently detained individuals, as well as all political and ideological prisoners.

Listening to the voices of thousands of families and survivors of recent crimes and documenting specific violations of international law.

Declaring to the world that this authority lacks legal legitimacy due to the absence of popular support among the Iranian people.

The letter concluded with a clear demand:

“Our specific demand is active defense of the Iranian people, a global boycott of the Islamic Republic, and the expulsion of officials and ambassadors of this regime from all international institutions, including the United Nations, the International Labour Organization, the European Union, and other international bodies.”

The signatories include the Global Network for Freedom of Political Prisoners and Prisoners of Conscience in Iran, Girls for Justice Campaign, Association of the Injured and Defenders of the Jenaq Uprising, Campaign for the Release of Imprisoned Workers (Freedom Now), the International Committee Against the Death Penalty, the National Union of Iranian Refugees, along with dozens of other organizations
