UN Calls to Protect Civilians in Sudan Amid Continued Mutual Aerial Bombardment
Amid escalating airstrikes in Sudan, the UN condemened civilian targeting from continued airstrikes and drone attacks, demanding protection and humanitarian aid access after civilians were killed in North Darfur.
NEWS CENTER_The humanitarian and economic crisis in Sudan is worsening with the continuation of clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, resulting in widespread mass displacement waves, massive destruction of infrastructure, and thousands of victims.
The United Nations again condemned the targeting of civilians due to the continued airstrikes and drone attacks in Sudan, demanding the necessity of providing protection for them and securing the access of humanitarian aid to those affected.
This condemnation came following an aerial attack that targeted the Al-Tina area in North Darfur State days ago, resulting in the killing of five civilians and the injury of others with various wounds. Reports also indicate additional victims in various areas of West and South Kordofan states.
For his part, the UN spokesperson stressed the organization's commitment to international humanitarian law, emphasizing the inviolability of targeting civilians, relief workers, service facilities, and infrastructure under any circumstance.
Reports indicate that hostilities are causing fuel prices to rise in parts of Kordofan and Darfur, and these increases are expected to lead to higher prices of basic goods, making them less available to the most vulnerable families.
The UN official warned that the acute funding shortage impedes the humanitarian response in Sudan, calling on donors to provide urgent resources, and on the parties to the conflict to open corridors to expand relief in Darfur and Kordofan during the next six months.
