The Yazidi Free Women's Movement (TAJÊ) and the Yazidi Young Women's Union launched a seven-day tent protest demanding the freedom of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan and removing the PKK from the list of terrorist organizations.

Shengal- On November 28, the Yazidi Free Women's Movement (TAJÊ) and the Yazidi Young Women's Union launched a 7-day tent action in the Serokatî Garden in Geliyê Kersê to ensure the freedom of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan and to remove the PKK from the list of terrorist organizations. On the third day of the protest, many Yazidi women, young people, and representatives of institutions and non-governmental organizations from Borik and Duhla towns visited the tent to demand the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan. Riham Hiço, a member of the TAJÊ Coordination made a speech during the visit.

“His freedom is important for us”

Recalling that many protests have taken place in many countries for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan, Riham Hiço said, “We, as Yazidi community, continue to take part in protests. We set up this tent here to support the protests. Abdullah Öcalan’s freedom is important for us. As Yazidis, we will stand by our leader to the end. We are still alive thanks to his ideas and philosophy. Our people should know that if freedom fighters, the student of leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) hadn’t come to help us, we would face a different situation now.”

Meyan Bork, the co-chair of the Peoples’ Assembly in the town of Borik, also made a speech. Drawing attention to the importance of the tent protest, Meyan Bork said, “We want to make the whole world see the truth by holding this protest. We, as the Yazidi community, faced genocide. Leader Apo and PKK saved us from this genocide. Jailing a person fighting for the freedom of the people and the world is not right. Adding a movement helping people on the list of terrorist organizations is not right. Leader Apo and PKK liberated Kobanî, Kirkuk, Mahmur and Shengal.”
