Shengal- Yazidi women held a march in Shengal to protest violence against women to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Yazidi women started to march from the Mektaba Sor (Red School) where ISIS held the abducted Êzidî women and children to sell them in slave markets. Yazidi women held flags of the Yazidi Women's Freedom Movement (TAJÊ), banners saying, “The organizing women will fight and revenge” and photos of killed women.

“It is the day for women’s revenge”

After the march, Riham Hico, a member of the TAJÊ, made a speech. “November 25 is the day for women’s revenge and resistance. We have been subjected to violence and slavery for centuries. The forms of violence against women may differ in countries but the same mentality targets women. We, as Yazidi women, have been subjected to many forms of violence. We experienced genocide against us. In each attack against us, the women were targeted first. But today, Yazidi women are stronger under the umbrella of the TAJÊ. Women of Shengal formed their defense units, YJŞ. In this way, we took revenge against ISIS and we will continue to take. As of today, we will organize ourselves more and be stronger,” Riham Hico said in her speech.

“It is time to unite”

“Today is the day of all women to resist, unite, fight and raise our voice together,” said Emşe Xidir, one of the women who took part in the march.
