STAR Conference Mourns the Death of Syrian Activist Hind Salah
The coordination committee of the STAR Conference extended its condolences to the family of Syrian civil activist Hind Salah by issuing a message of sympathy.
News Center — In a condolence message addressed to the family of the deceased and the people of Suwayda, the STAR Conference affirmed that with the passing of activist Hind Salah, Suwayda has lost one of its most prominent pioneers of struggle.
The STAR Conference issued a condolence message today, Thursday, December 18, to the family of activist Hind Salah, stating:
“With deep sorrow, we received the news of the passing of Syrian activist, pioneer of the people of Suwayda, Hind Salah, who lost her life after suffering from an illness. We first extend our warmest condolences to the family of Hind Salah and to all the people of Suwayda, sharing their pain and grief.
This year, members of the Druze community have faced direct attacks by jihadist groups and stood firm in the face of them. Hind Salah was one of the most prominent Druze figures who did not submit to the pressures of either the Baath regime or Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham. She always stood at the heart of activism in defense of her community. During the era of the Baath regime, and because of her rejection of and opposition to attacks against the Syrian people, she was deprived of her right to education. Likewise, during the period of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, she rejected those attacks and emerged as a feminist activist who stood at the forefront and inspired others.
The militant, intellectual, resilient, and just Hind Salah, despite her terminal illness, remained present in the fields of resistance. There is no doubt that the attacks targeting her people this year in particular had a significant impact on the worsening of her illness, as the pressures she witnessed firsthand were reflected in her health condition.
Hind Salah, with her dream of peace, consistently resisted oppression and injustice. One of her most prominent aspirations was to build a women’s organization capable of defending the rights of women and peoples throughout Syria. When she saw women’s organizations in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria rising strongly, it filled her with hope and joy. We say today that our hope, desire, and goal are to complete your dream to the very end. We also affirm our readiness to exchange experiences in order to build strong organizations for Druze and Alawite women. May your soul rest in peace, and may your legacy endure as a cultured and noble woman.
We further affirm that through the unity of women, we will lead a democratic Syria. We renew our condolences to the family of Hind Salah and to all members of the Druze community.”
Syrian civil activist Hind Salah, aged 61, one of the most prominent pioneers of women in Suwayda, passed away on Tuesday evening, December 16, after a long struggle with a terminal illness, leaving behind a rich legacy of activism and courageous positions against tyranny and injustice.
