Recent Attacks on Aleppo and Rojava Displace 170,000 People.
OCHA reports over 170,000 displaced by recent Hayat Tahrir al-Sham attacks in Syria, confirming week-long power and internet outages in the besieged city of Kobani.
News Center — Due to the recent attacks witnessed in several areas, thousands of residents have been forced into displacement from their homes toward safer regions, amid difficult humanitarian conditions that have further exacerbated their suffering.
OCHA in Syria reported that more than 170,000 people have been displaced since January 6 from the areas of Aleppo, Hasakah, and Raqqa as a result of the recent attacks carried out by jihadists of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.
The office confirmed that the United Nations and its partners continue to provide support for the humanitarian response in the region, noting that a joint convoy arrived yesterday in Qamishlo carrying food supplies, winter clothing, blankets, and other essential items. It also emphasized that additional convoys will be sent in the coming days.
OCHA indicated that malnutrition screenings and food assistance have been provided to more than 1,500 children, in addition to hundreds of pregnant and breastfeeding women in Hasakah and its countryside. At the same time, the UN spokesperson stated that partners on the ground reported that electricity and internet services have not yet been restored in the city of Kobani, increasing the suffering of residents amid harsh humanitarian conditions due to the siege imposed on the city.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs concluded its statement by affirming that humanitarian partners have provided winter assistance since last October, including blankets, clothing, and heating supplies, to approximately 450,000 people across various regions in Syria
