Kurdish Democracy – ANALYSIS
The narrow-minded attitude without a horizon can only be overcome by a democratic system. In this sense, the efforts to ensure national unity means the development of Kurdish democracy in every way.

DİCLE AMED
We have been experiencing a process, in which a new system has been being redesigned in the world. World War I resulted in the building of nation states in the Middle East and the division of Kurdistan into four. A century later, we entered a new design process that resulted in the dissolution of nation states. First of all, it should be known very well that what has changed the region is the struggle for freedom of our people, who have been under occupation and faced a genocide for a century. The Kurdish people’s commitment to freedom and their struggle for freedom have defeated the genocidal and occupying system; Kurds and Kurdish women have defeated the genocidal nation-state system.
However, this historic process offers both risks and great opportunities for freedom. During World War I, the Kurdish people were promised a state, like many nations; borders were drawn and a system was built according to these borders. However, the leaders of the Kurdish people remained stuck in localism, their regions without having a vision to build Kurdistan.
Kurdistan was divided into four parts by the Treaty of Lausanne because they did not unite. Therefore, the only thing necessary for this new process is to ensure national unity. Kurdish women are the most suffered from the division of Kurdistan.
They have paid a heavy price because the occupation of Kurdistan means the occupation of our bodies and our honor.
As Kurdish women, we have lived under colonial rule for a century, facing rape, massacre, kidnapping. For this reason, colonialism is the main problem faced by us, women, and the first demand of women's freedom is to be free from occupation.
The disunity of the Kurdish people paves way to the ongoing occupation. Therefore, national disunity is primarily a matter of honor for Kurdish women.
The only way to eliminate violence and slavery against women in Kurdistan is to ensure national unity and solidarity.
Reason for national disunity
As is known, the efforts for Kurdish national unity have been made for years. The Kurdish women’s organizations held two conferences in 2009 (Amed-Diyarbakır) and 2011 (Hewler- Erbil) to ensure Kurdish national unity. The occupation attacks targeting Rojava and Southern Kurdistan and the policy of annihilation by NATO divided Kurdish political parties, ending the efforts for Kurdish national unity. One of the aims of the Kurdish women to ensure national unity is to break the disunity of some Kurdish parties.
The letters sent by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan to Kurdish political parties in Southern Kurdistan have broken the deadlock at ensuring national unity, showing methods for dialogue.
The disunity of the Kurds in the new process that will shape the next century would be a great disaster for them. We can say that leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) has saved the Kurdish people from the brink of a great disaster. Thanks to him, Kurdish women have mobilized to ensure national unity and a conference on Kurdish national unity was held in Rojava.
National unity is both a political and social issue
The narrow-minded attitude without a horizon can only be overcome by a democratic system. In this sense, the efforts to ensure national unity means the development of Kurdish democracy in every way. National unity must be built on democracy. Otherwise, political parties cannot form a coalition and Kurdish national unity will be broken down by the slightest external cause. National unity is both a political and social issue.
For the first time in Kurdish women's history, representatives of 24 parties, women's organizations and political parties from the four parts of Kurdistan and the diaspora have established a joint platform. This is a historic, strong and significant unity. The aim of the platform is to ensure Kurdish national unity by solving the problems faced by Kurdish women, holding conferences and congresses.
