DEM Party Women’s Council: Legal action must be launched against police harassment

The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Women’s Council has issued a written statement, calling for a legal action to be launched against police harassment towards protesters.

News Center- The Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Women’s Council has issued a written statement on police and judicial harassment against the protests that sparked in many Türkiye’s cities, especially Istanbul, following the investigation launched into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB).

Women defending their democratic rights on the streets are subjected to human rights violations such as violence, harassment and strip searches by police, the statement said, stressing that police violence “reflects male-dominated monist and sexist policies” and that women’s struggle for democracy, equality and freedom “cannot be intimidated” by oppression, detention and violence. “Targeting women and women’s bodies by using violence shows hostile law against women.”

In the statement, the council demanded the immediate release of the detained women and called for a legal action to be launched against police harassment towards protesters and those who gave instructions to the police.
