Qamishlo- The campaign launched by the Joint Action Platform of Women’s Movements and Organizations in North and East Syria against the massacres and rights violations committed against the Alawite minority in Syria’s coastal regions continues. Kongra Star has organized many events such as panels, marches in the city of Qamishlo and social media campaigns as part of the campaign in order to draw attention to the rights violations and attacks on Alawite women, said Îbtîsam El-Huseyînî, Spokesperson of Kongra Star in the city.

‘All forms of violence were used against the people’

Îbtîsam El-Huseyînî indicated that they, as Syrian people, had been oppressed by the Assad regime for more than 50 years. “All forms of violence and oppression were used against the people. Therefore, the people are ready to rise up against genocidal attacks to be committed against them. The fall of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024, Syrian people hoped for building a new, democratic and decentralized Syria. Unfortunately, the system of the government led by jihadist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has the policies implemented by the Baathist regime. The continuation of ISIS, the murderer of Hevrin Khalaf  and the rapists attended the conference held by the government in the name of peace. Then, the government approved a controversial constitutional declaration.”

‘Women’s rights are ignored in Syria’s new constitution’

The constitutional declaration approved by the government led by HTS “ignores women’s rights”, stressed Îbtîsam El-Huseyînî. “The constitutional declaration ignores the rights of women, ethnic and religious groups in Syria. But the most painful thing that surprised everyone is the inhumane practices carried out by the government in Syria’s coastal regions. Many massacres have been committed in Syria’s coastal regions. Alawite people have been killed in Latakia, Tartus, Baniyas, Homs and Hama.”

Campaign to support Alawite women

Îbtîsam El-Huseyînî called on all Syrian women to support the campaign launched for Alawite women. “We have taken action to support Alawite women. As part of the campaign, we have sent aid supplies to Syria’s coastal regions. We have organized many events such as panels and marches in the city of Qamishlo to support the campaign.”

“As women of Rojava, we support all women, not only Alawite women. We call on women from all identities in Syria to be in solidarity with Alawite women in the coastal regions.”
