Qamishlo- In an interview with NuJINHA, Kongra Star Spokesperson Rîhan Loqo commented on the ongoing Turkish attacks on North and East Syria. Quoting the words of Abdullah Öcalan, saying, “The 21st century will be the century of women”, Rîhan Loqo said that the Kurdish women’s movement has been struggling to build a free, democratic and equal society for 40 years.

Women’s revolution

Speaking about the revolution in Rojava, also known as “women’s revolution”, Rîhan Loqo talked about why this revolution is also called women’s revolution. “Because this revolution was led by women, who have taken part in all facets of life such as the military, politics, economy and diplomacy. Women have played an important role in their societies, country and building a new system based on democracy and equality.”

‘Women have changed their society’

Speaking about the patriarchal mindset and sovereign systems in the Middle East, she said, “Making such a revolution in North and East Syria, especially in the Middle East, was not easy because women were seen as 'deficient'. But the resistance exhibited by women changed the patriarchal society. There is no doubt that this revolution still has an impact on Kurdistan, the Middle East and the world. The resistance of women in our region has become a role model for women all around the world. Women will keep struggling to build a system based on democracy, equality and justice in the Middle East.”

‘They do not want this resistance to spread all around the world’

In her speech, Rîhan Loqo noted that they knew very well that the Turkish state, in cooperation with the Coalition Forces, attacked the achievements and pioneers of the women's revolution. “The Turkish state has launched ground and air offensives into North and East Syria for 12 years. Their aim is to destroy the revolution because they do not want this resistance to spread all around the world.”

‘Women will never accept the patriarchal system’

Speaking about the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi (Women, Life, Freedom)” revolution in Rojhelat and Iran, she said, “The women leading this revolution will never accept the patriarchal system. The ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ slogan has been echoed in many countries and it has been changed by women all around the world. The Turkish state aims to destroy the region where this slogan was developed.” The “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” was first chanted by women of North and East Syria. “Now, it is chanted in four parts of Kurdistan, in the Middle East and all around the world,” she added.

‘The unity of women will defeat the invaders’

“During the revolution, women from north to south supported each other and this unity was very meaningful,” Rîhan Loqo said, “This unity of women will realize women's democratic confederalism and defeat the invaders. The Turkish state has intensified its attacks because it is afraid of the strong will and unity of women. We should protect our revolution together and turn it into a global revolution. We call on mothers, intellectuals, writers, artists and all freedom lovers to raise their voices and reveal the true aim of the Turkish attacks.”
