Zhina Modares Gorgi temporarily released from prison in Sanandaj

Zhina Modares Gorji, a journalist and women's rights activist in Sanandaj, was temporarily released from Sanandaj Prison on Tuesday.

News Center- Zhina Modares Gorji, a journalist and women’s rights activist in Sanandaj, was temporarily released from Sanandaj Prison on Tuesday, after being granted a medical leave.

Zhina Modarres Gorji was arrested in Sanandaj on September 21, 2022, during the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” protests. She was released on bail after 40 days of detention in the women’s ward of Sanandaj prison on charges of “propaganda against the state” and “assembly and collusion against national security.”

On April 10, 2023, she was arrested again. On July 3, 2023, she was temporarily released with a bail of five billion tomans.

In May 2024, Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj sentenced her 10 years in prison on charges of “forming illegal group with the aim of overthrowing the government,” 10 years on charges of “collaborating with hostile groups and governments,” and one year  on charges of “propaganda against the government”.

Her prison sentence was later reduced to 28 months following an appeal. On November 2, 2024, Zhina Modarres Gorji was transferred to Sanandaj Prison to serve her prison sentence.
