Zenobia Women's Gathering: Targeting Our Headquarters Is an Attempt to Undermine the Will of Free Women

The Zenobia Women’s Gathering condemned the burning of its committee’s headquarters in the town of Abu Hammam in Deir Ezor Canton, confirming that it was an attempt to silence the voice of free women and undermine their struggle for justice and equality.

News Center –An armed group affiliated with ISIS terrorist cells set fire to the headquarters of the Zenobia Women’s Gathering in Abu Hammam, in the Deir ez-Zor region of North and East Syria, causing material damage.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 17, the Zenobia Women’s Gathering declared:
“We condemn the cowardly terrorist act carried out by one of the cells affiliated with the ISIS terrorist organization, which consisted of burning the headquarters of the Zenobia Women’s Gathering Committee in the town of Abu Hammam, Deir ez-Zor Canton.”

The statement affirmed that this heinous attack is yet another episode in the series of dark forces’ attempts to sow fear and terror in the hearts of women and silence their free voices raised in defense of freedom, dignity, and social justice.

The statement highlighted that women in the North and East Syria region, especially in Deir ez-Zor, have proven their ability to resist and rebuild. They were at the forefront of the battles to liberate the region from ISIS terrorism and sacrificed their best daughters as martyrs who gave their lives so that society could live in freedom and peace.

It added that the blood of the martyrs who faced terrorism and extremism with their belief in the justice of the women’s cause will remain a beacon lighting the path of their struggle:
“We will not allow these sacrifices to be wasted or forgotten under the threat of extremist ideologies or patriarchal mentalities that do not believe in the existence of women or their right to a free and dignified life.”

The statement emphasized that the targeting of the Zenobia Women’s Gathering Committee headquarters is an attack on every free woman striving to build a democratic society and a vile attempt to crush the will of organized women, who today have become a cornerstone in achieving security, stability, and social development in the region.

The Zenobia Women’s Gathering reaffirmed that they will not submit to threats or intimidation:
“We will continue our tireless work in organizing, educating, and empowering women to actively participate in all political, social, and economic fields. We will remain the voice of free women struggling for justice and equality. We pledge before the souls of our martyrs and all our women to continue our path of struggle and intellectual and organizational resistance until we build a free, democratic society that believes in justice and equality and stands firmly against terrorism and extremism in all its forms.”

The statement concluded by calling on all institutions and the international community to firmly stand against attempts to revive ISIS ideology, which threatens peace and security in the region, and to support the struggle of women against these systematic attacks that target their existence and pioneering role.
