Amed -  They come together under the umbrella of the Dicle Amed Women's Platform (DAKAP) to organize their actions and activities for a week. JINHA spoke to Fatma Yıldızhan, term spokesperson of the Confederation of Public Employees' Trade Unions (KESK), about the women’s program for the International Women’s Day. “All women should take to the streets in order to respond to the attacks of the government,” she said.

“There is a language and a judiciary that encourage male terror”

Stating that they have recently faced the increasing femicides, Fatma Yıldızhan pointed out that the killing of women has reached a brutal level. “The ruling party has been constantly attacking women to build a reactionary and conservative system,” Fatma Yıldızhan said, adding, “Women are the most affected by the wars. In the Kurdistan region, women still pay the price of the war. The language used by the ruling party, and the current system also carry out attacks on women. There is a language and judicial system that encourage male terror. Unfortunately, women pay the price of these with their lives. The ruling party tries to shape society by attacking women because it tries to build a reactionary and conservative system.”

“Women will draw attention to many issues”

Speaking about how attacks affect women, Fatma Yıldızhan said, “There is a system that threatens women. We voice our reactions against this system. This system attacks women by using brutal methods. Surely, we keep fighting these attacks. We never take a step back from our struggle. This year, we will draw attention to many issues, including the attacks of the system against women to mark the International Women’s Day. Women will take to the streets to stop this system and dirty policies.”

“Torture against sick prisoners is one of our main agendas”

Emphasizing that a policy of torture has been carried out on sick prisoners, Fatma Yıldızhan said, “Sick prisoners have faced very serious rights violations. Rights violations against them are one of our main agendas. Sick prisoners are held in prison instead of being released. They want to give a message to everyone carrying out the struggle of women in the person of Aysel Tuğluk. We will carry out activities to be in solidarity with the sick prisoners.”

“All women should take to the streets to respond to the attacks”

Indicating that they will take to the streets for a week to mark the International Women’s Day, Fatma Yıldızhan called on women living in cities to participate in their activities. “We will carry out activities to reach all women. We will also carry out activities to draw attention to the economic crisis and violence against health workers. Some of our activities to mark the International Women’s Day are sending cards to women prisoners and issuing press statements. As women of Amed, we will take to the streets. All women should take to the streets to respond to the attacks against them.”
