Supreme Court rejects retrial for Pakhshan Azizi for second time
Iran’s Supreme Court has rejected the second retrial request for Kurdish activist Pakhshan Azizi, a political prisoner sentenced to death.

News Center- Iran’s Supreme Court has rejected the second retrial request for Kurdish activist Pakhshan Azizi, a political prisoner sentenced to death, her lawyer Maziar Tataei, announced on the social media platform X on Sunday.
Maziar Tataei stated that the Supreme Court dismissed the second retrial request submitted by her legal team without reviewing the case file and declared the defense arguments unsubstantiated.
Kurdish journalist and activist Pakhshan Azizi was arrested in Tehran on August 4, 2023. After being held in solitary confinement in Ward 209 for three months and three weeks, she was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison on December 11, 2023.
On 23 July 2024, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced her to death for “armed rebellion against the state” and “membership of opposition groups”. On January 8, 2025, Branch 39 of the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence handed down to Pakhshan Azizi.
