News Center- A street in the Saidsadiq district of Sulaymaniyah, a city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, has been named after Gulistan Tara and Hêro Bahadîn, who were killed in a Turkish drone strike, targeting their vehicle near Saidsadiq on December 23, 2024.
The people of the district held a ceremony on Monday, holding the photographs of the two Kurdish journalists. “Two Kurdish journalists were targeted for trying to reveal the truth,” said the Jeter Media Production Company at the ceremony. “Wherever a journalist is killed, there is an attempt to conceal the truth. The whole world and the Kurdistan Region need access to accurate and reliable information more than ever.”
The crackdown on journalists has intensified, the company stressed. “The colonial governments try to conceal the truth by killing, arresting and beating journalists. We will continue to be the voices of people.”
On January 27, 2025, a Turkish drone targeted a vehicle carrying journalists in Ranya, a city in Southern Kurdistan, killing Kurdish journalist Aziz Köylüoğlu.
