Resistance on Tishreen Dam unites people

The civilian vigil staged by people from different ethnic and religious identities of North and East Syria on the Tishreen Dam against the Turkish attacks continues. “This resistance has united us.”

Tishreen- Since December 8, 2024, the Turkish state and Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) have been attacking the Tishreen Dam, the largest dam in North and East Syria and the second-largest dam in Syria while the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Women's Defense Units (YPJ) have been waging a resistance against the attacks to defend the dam and protect the people of the region. Since January 8, 2025, the people from different ethnic and religious identities of North and East Syria have been holding an alternate-civilian vigil on the dam to protect their source of energy.

A group of people from Qamishlo, Amuda and Til Hemis, who held the vigil on the dam, welcomed a group from Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor and Tabqa, who came to the dam to hold the vigil on Wednesday.

The group from Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor and Tabqa took over the vigil to protect their dam from the ongoing attacks. During the takeover, a Kurdish woman and an Arab woman embraced each other. Both women made a victory sign and said, “We stand with the SDF.”

‘We will protect the values of the martyrs’

Amina Esaf, mother of Mizrî Ebdulla who lost her life while fighting for the liberation of Raqqa, was among the people coming from Raqqa to take over the vigil. “As an Arab woman, I was welcomed by Kurdish mothers,” she told NuJINHA. “I came here to protect our dam against the attacks of the enemy. We will protect the values ​​and gains achieved by our martyrs from the Turkish attacks.”

‘Victory is close’

“Victory is close; we have reached its final stage,” said Sîham Silêman. “This resistance (vigil) is embraced by Kurdish, Arab, Syriac, Armenian, Circassian and Turkmen people. People from different ethnic and religious identities resist to protect their source of energy. This resistance has united us. The thoughts and ideology of leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) have united us. We will protect our homeland and country together.”
