NE Syria’s women delegation highlights jineology in Belgian research tour

NE Syria women’s delegation visits Brussels research centers, discussing Jineology, women’s history, and empowerment, while exploring union-building, solidarity, and strategies to advance gender equality and social justice in their communities.

News Center - The women’s delegation from North and East Syria is continuing its month-long tour across several European countries. During the trip, they are meeting with women’s and human rights organizations, engaging with European lawmakers, and participating in panel discussions and cultural events aimed at fostering dialogue and knowledge exchange on women’s issues and human rights.

The delegation includes a select group of prominent representatives from women’s institutions in North and East Syria, among them: Amina Omar, administrator at the Women’s Council of North and East Syria; Mona Al-Youssef, spokesperson for the Syrian Women’s Council; Shahrazad Al-Jasim, spokesperson for the Zenobia Women's Community; Jiyan Hussein, member of the Kongra Star Coordination; and Georgette Barsomo, spokesperson for the Syriac Women’s Union.On Wednesday, September 10, the women’s delegation arrived in Brussels, Belgium, beginning visits to three centers: the Jineology Center, the Kurdish Institute, and the Research and Studies Center. 

At the Jineology Center, the delegation discussed the center’s activities and the role of women’s studies (Jineology) in establishing a social and intellectual framework that strengthens women’s status, reinterprets history from a women-centered perspective, highlights their contributions, and explored ways to expand influence and reach more women through the creation of a women’s union that fosters solidarity and collective empowerment.

During their visit to the Kurdish Institute, the delegation discussed Syrian women’s issues and their struggle throughout the years of the revolution, emphasizing that women’s participation in self-administration institutions is fundamental to building a pluralistic society based on justice and equality. At the Research and Studies Center, the delegation met with Director Aysha Al-Basha and held a meeting with the Mayor of Ixelles, aiming to strengthen relations and exchange perspectives on women’s issues and community rights.

The delegation is expected to participate in a series of events and activities across several European countries, including Switzerland, Germany, France, and Belgium. Their program includes attending international conferences, panel discussions, and cultural festivals, alongside meetings with active women’s and human rights organizations in Europe, aimed at strengthening cooperation and exchanging expertise in empowerment and advocacy.
