Suspended sentence for Iranian filmmaker over online post

The Revolutionary Court in Shiraz sentenced filmmaker and Iranian Short Film Association (ISFA) member Negin Aminzadeh to two years in prison for “insulting Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei” online, with the sentence suspended for five years.

News Center – Amid intensified domestic repression following the outbreak of war between Iran and Israel, authorities have arrested activists and artists under various “national security” pretexts.

 

Negin Aminzadeh, based in Shiraz, announced on Instagram that Branch One of the Revolutionary Court sentenced her to two years, banned her from leaving the country, and prohibited her from online activity, for “insulting Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei” online. The sentence is suspended for five years and will only be enforced if she commits another offense. She must report monthly to local intelligence during this period.

 

Following the war-related crackdown, Aminzadeh was detained at her home by Ministry of Intelligence forces and held at Shiraz Detention Center 100 before being released on bail after several days.

 

Previously, she was arrested at her workplace, Karnameh School in Shiraz, during the nationwide uprising. Aminzadeh is a prominent figure in Iranian short films, having served on multiple ISFA juries, and currently participates in the 15th ISFA awards jury.
