Houthis commit 5,618 violations against women in Yemen, report says

The Houthis have committed at least 5,618 violations against women in Yemen since January 1, 2017, the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms said in a report on Monday.

Yemen- The conflict that started between the Houthis and the government forces in 2015 has killed, injured and displaced thousands of people in Yemen. Women have been subjected to rights violations by the Houthis.

The Houthis have committed at least 5,618 violations against women in Yemen since January 1, 2017 the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms said in a report on Monday.

From January 1, 2027 to July 31, 2024, women in Yemen have been subjected to rights violations such as killing, kidnapping, enforced disappearances forced, physical and psychological violence, according to the report.

547 cases of kidnapping

The network documented 1,479 killings and 3,398 injuries resulting from shelling, artillery, mine and IED explosions, and sniper attacks, 547 cases of kidnapping, disappearance, and psychological and physical violence, and 176 cases of forced conscription.

46 women were killed and 211 others were injured by the Houthis from January 1, 2027 to July 31, 2024, according to the report.

In the report, the network called on the United Nations, the Security Council, and international organizations to take urgent steps to protect Yemeni women by fulfilling their legal and humanitarian responsibilities, to hold the Houthis accountable for their violations against women and to enforce the implementation of UN resolutions and international conventions, ensuring an end to crimes against civilians in Yemen.
