News Center- Tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir have escalated to mutual attacks. At least 43 deaths have been reported from both sides of the border since Wednesday. According to Pakistan, at least 31 people were killed and 59 others injured by the Indian strikes and firing along the border. According to India, at least 12 people were killed as a result of Pakistani shelling.

In a statement on Wednesday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vowed to respond to India’s strikes in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir that were carried out in the early hours of Wednesday.

India accused Pakistan of unprovoked firing over the Line of Control, the de facto border that divides disputed Kashmir. “Our actions were measured and non-escalatory, proportionate and responsible,” Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said on Wednesday.

Tensions have been escalating between the two countries since a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22. India said its missiles precisely targeted “terrorist infrastructure” in Pakistani territory.
