Arjîn Kobanê: YPJ commander becomes immortalized in resistance for Tishreen

Arjîn Kobanê (born Edla Mixarî), one of the commanders of the YPJ, was martyred on January 21, 2025, while fighting against the attacks by the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions on the Tishreen Dam.

She was born in 1984, in the resistance city of Kobanê to a patriotic family. She grew up with a love for her nation, and with a heart full of patriotism. In 2001, she joined the Kurdistan Freedom Movement. As a revolutionary in the mountains of Kurdistan, she gained great experiences in the struggle for women’s freedom and a free country and became a commander inspiring many women.  

In 2011, Edla Mixarî went to North and East Syria during the Syrian civil war, when the fate of the people was being determined and joined the revolution in Rojava. She first participated in activities organized by youth organizations in order to mobilize young people in many cities of North and East Syria. She led many strategic and important activities in politics and women’s organizations. During the Rojava Revolution led by women, she fulfilled her responsibilities to serve the revolution.

She brought the spirit of resistance in Kobanê to Tishreen

Her long-year experiences made her a commander of the YPJ inspiring many women. She trained numerous fighters and fought on the frontline. She brought the spirit of resistance in Kobanê to Tishreen. She was martyred on January 21, 2025, while fighting against the attacks by the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions on the Tishreen Dam.
