Writer Dilşa Kocakaya sent to prison
Writer Dilşa Kocakaya has been sent to prison after her sentence was upheld by the Turkish Supreme Court.
News Center- Writer Dilşa Kocakaya was sentenced to one year and three months in prison on charges of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” because of the article written by her to be in solidarity with the Özgür Gündem newspaper after it was closed down by an emergency decree on October 30, 2016.
The Turkish Supreme Court upheld her sentence on July 31, 2023. Dilşa Kocakaya was taken into custody on Wednesday (November 1) in Edirne. Then, she was transferred to prison. Her family has not been informed that she was transferred to which prison.
Journalist Nazlıcan Nujin Yıldız stood trial
The fourth hearing of the trial against Jinnews reporter Nazlıcan Nujin Yıldız was held today by the Izmir 21st High Criminal Court. At the hearing, she submitted documents saying that she is an intern of the Jinnews and that she is a student at Ege University. Her lawyers demanded the removal of the judicial control.
Nazlıcan Nujin Yıldız is also a member of the Free Students’ Initiative at the Ege University. The prosecutor claimed that the Free Student Initiative was formed upon the instructions of a terrorist organization and demanded a prison sentence against her. Nazlıcan Nujin Yıldız's lawyers requested time to prepare their defense. The next hearing will be held on December 7.
