Musician Pınar Aydınlar acquitted of all charges: Revolutionary art cannot be prosecuted

Musician Pınar Aydınlar has been acquitted of all terrorism-related charges against her. “The main duty of revolutionary art is to struggle for the oppressed people in this country,” she said after the announcement of the verdict.

News Center- Musician Pınar Aydınlar appeared before judge again for singing “Kızıldere Ağıtı” and “İbrahim’e Ağız” and commemorated İbrahim Kaypakkaya in her speech at the 10th Munzur Culture and Nature Festival held in Dersim in 2010.

The musician attended the hearing held by the Tunceli 2nd High Criminal Court through Audio-Visual Information System (SEGBİS) from the Istanbul Bakırköy 17th High Criminal Court. The court issued the acquittal of the musician after 13 years.

‘The main duty of revolutionary art is to struggle’

In an interview with PİRHA, Pınar Aydınlar said, “The main duty of revolutionary art is to struggle for the oppressed people in this country. I sang these songs 13 years ago and I have sung these songs for 13 years. Revolutionary art cannot be prosecuted.”

Pınar Aydınlar was arrested on May 15, 2018 at the Atatürk Airport in Istanbul. She was prosecuted for her speeches during her electoral campaign to become a Member of the Grand National Assembly for Izmir and released after three and a half months. She was sentenced to 10 months in prison. The Constitutional Court concluded that the verdict violated her right to freedom of expression.
