Investigation launched into suspicious death of Ayşe Tayurak closed

The investigation launched into the suspicious death of Ayşe Tayurak in Silvan was closed. The prosecutor decided not to prosecute the suspicious death of Ayşe Tayurak because Adem Tayurak's weight and physical characteristics showed that he couldn’t kill Ayşe Tayurak. In the decision, the prosecutor ignored the 25 years of systematic violence against Ayşe Tayurak by Adem Tayurak.

Amed – In Turkey, the suspicious deaths of women are recorded as “suicides”. The suspicious death of Ayşe Tayurak is also recorded as “suicide” due to ineffective investigation carried out into her death. On June 8, 2021, the dead body of Ayşe Tayurak, mother of seven, was founded at her home in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır province. Her husband Adem Tayurak was arrested on July 10 after his children and neighbors accused him of killing Ayşe Tayurak. In December, Adem Tayurak was released after the report prepared by the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) found her death as "suicide".

Systematic violence was ignored

Ayşe Tayurak’s daughter Elif Tayurak spoke NuJINHA after the death of her mother and claimed that her mother didn’t commit suicide but she was killed. “My father killed my mother,” she told us. An investigation was launched into the suspicious death of Ayşe Tayurak by the Silvan Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. But the prosecutor decided not to prosecute the suspicious death of Ayşe Tayurak. The ATK report and testimony of Adem Tayurak were cited as reasons for the closure of the investigation. In the decision, the prosecutor ignored the 25 years of systematic violence against Ayşe Tayurak by Adem Tayurak. Considering the suspect Adem's physical characteristics (weight, etc.), he doesn’t have the strength to hang Ayşe Tayurak, the prosecutor decided.

The prosecutor found the statements of children as contradictory statements. “The statements of the children are because of the psychological burden imposed on them and produced by children’s imagination. There is no medical evidence showing that she was hanged forcibly by someone else,” the prosecutor decided.

The lawyers will reportedly object to the decision.
