Istanbul- Hatice Arat (45), who was arrested in Adana in 2007 on charges of “Membership in an illegal organization”, was released from prison on Thursday.

Hatice Arat was previously released from prison on May 12, 2024; however, she was rearrested in September 2024. Hatice Arat was welcomed in front of the Bakırköy Women’s Closed Prison by the members of the Association for Solidarity with the Families of Prisoners and Convicts in Marmara (MA-TUHAYDER), the Mothers of Justice and journalists.

“I am released from prison; however, thousands of our friends are still in prison,” Hatice Arat said in front of the prison. “Our sick and elderly mothers are in prison. Our friends, who have already completed their prison sentence or served 30 years in prison, are not released from prison due to the arbitrary practices of the Administrative and Observation Board of the prison. All sick prisoners and my friends, whose release is postponed although they have already served 30 years in prison, must be released.”
