Women of Hasekê honor memory of Deniz Poyraz with their academic works
Not years ago… Deniz Poyraz’s mother said, “One Deniz is gone but thousands like her will be born” after her daughter was killed in the attack on the HDP office in Izmir on June 17. The women, who hear the voice of Deniz Poyraz’s mother, honor the memory of Deniz Poyraz by naming their academy after her.

Hasekê – In the Hasekê city of NE Syria, 17 women, including Kongreya Star members and administrators, will participate in a training program. Kongreya Star Academy Committee member Koçer Hisên told us they kicked off this term’s works of the academy with the motto, “One Deniz is gone but thousands like her will be born”.
Noting that they want to be the voice of the mother of Deniz Poyraz, who was killed in the attack on the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) office in Izmir on June 17, by using her mother’s words, “One Deniz is gone but thousands like her will be born” as the motto of the academy, “We determine her words as the motto of every work of the academy. We want to show that her sentence comes true.
“Our struggle against the patriarchal system will prevail”
Koçer Hisên noted that Kongreya Star’s 17 members and administrators will carry out many works across NE Syria after the training program, “We have struggled against the 5,000-year-old male-dominated system and our struggle against the patriarchal system will prevail.”
