Zirgan (Abu Rasin)- Life goes on in the town of Zirgan (Abu Rasin), located in the Jazira Canton of North and East Syria, despite the ongoing Turkish attacks. In the town, people plant seeds after collecting the remnants of war to breathe life into nature. “The Turkish attacks cannot prevent us from breathing life into nature,” they told NuJINHA.

Hena Xidir, who lives in the village of Zêdiyê, plants seeds, trees and vegetables along with her six siblings.

“We have to work to survive,” she said. “We plant vegetables such as tomatoes and squash and cotton and wheat. We work about 7 or 8 hours every day.”

‘We do not want to be dependent on men’

Hena Xidir and her siblings work in cooperation because “We have to be strong and support each other. We did not have the opportunity to go to school but we have learned many things and gained experience. We do not want to be dependent on anyone, especially men.”

Hena Xidir and her siblings have dreams. “However, we cannot realize our dreams due to the ongoing war,” said Hena Xidir. “I hope this war will end soon and we will have a peaceful life.”
