Kobanê- The Taliban took control of Afghanistan on August 16. Known for carrying out practices similar to those of ISIS, the Taliban have changed the lives of the people negatively since the takeover of Afghanistan.  Women are most affected people by these changes.

On August 18, the United States, European Union, and other nations issued a joint statement to express their concern about the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan. Women’s organizations in NE Syria also expressed their concern about Afghan women and girls.

Women are in danger in Afghanistan

Kongreya Star Coordination member and spokesperson Mizgin Xelil spoke to our news agency about the situation of Afghan women. The USA has been organizing in Afghanistan for years, Mizgin Xelil said, “The US supposedly saw itself as responsible; however, it withdrew from Afghanistan as a result of dirty politics and left Afghan people alone with the Taliban.” Mizgin Xelil mentioned the practices faced by Afghan women, adding, “As the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, they began to carry out brutal attacks against women. They first decided to force girls and women to marry their members. This means women and girls are sold and this practice is against humanity. And women are forced to wear a black burqa.  Afghan society is facing violent practices now after living under US politics for years. What is going on in Afghanistan now is being done in NE Syria by Turkey. For this reason, we think Erdoğan and Taliban are on the same path and they are ruling with the same mentality.”

Women are sacrificed for interests

Mizgin Xelil highlighted the revolution that taken place in the west, east, and north of Syria and said, “Women formed the Women's Defense Units to lead this revolution and fight ISIS terrorism. For this reason, the Turkish state first targets the existence and will of women. Women were abducted in Afrîn, Serêkanî and Girê Spî, they were killed and raped. They were also forced to wear the black burqa.”

“Women are subjected to a serious attack in the 21st century all around the world,” Mizgin Xelil said, “Therefore, the situation of women in Afghanistan is not different from the situation of other women. Women are sacrificed for the interests of hegemonic powers.”

Call on Afghan women

Mizgin Xelil called on Afghan women to form their own forces to protect themselves. “Afghan women must lead society and form their own forces. They can take the resistance of women in NE Syria as a model. As Kongreya Star, we support them.”
