Kobanê – Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan has been kept in aggravated isolation in Imrali High Security F-Type Prison since he was captured on February 15, 1999. His lawyers Rezan Sarıca and Newroz Uysal last met with their client August 7, 2019 after not being allowed to see him for eight years. Abdullah Öcalan was given the right to call his family for the first time on April 27, 2020. Since the last meeting, no positive or negative response has been given to the applications for meeting with Abdullah Öcalan. Pointing to the aggravated isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan, the women of Kobanê said that the aim of the isolation is to annihilate the Kurdish people.
“They want to destroy the project of Öcalan”
Pointing to the ban on his family and lawyers to see him, Siham Mustefa said, “As it is known, leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) has been held in the Imrali Prison for 23 years, since he was captured following an international conspiracy. The Turkish state and hegemonic powers thought that the arrest of Leader Apo would destroy the ideology of freedom and the Kurdish people. But leader Apo and we showed them that they cannot destroy us by arresting us. For 23 years, these powers have been making efforts to destroy the project of leader Apo. For this reason, they have carried out attacks in Kurdistan and imposed an aggravated isolation in the Imrali Prison.”
“We found ourselves thanks to Öcalan”
Cîhan Mustefa emphasized that the struggle of Abdullah Öcalan is the liberation struggle of the Kurdish people, “The Kurdish people were on the verge of genocide. We returned to our identity, culture, language, history and existence thanks to the ideology of leader Apo. The Kurdish people have been affected by the assimilation policies but the Kurdish women are most affected by these policies. For this reason, Abdullah Öcalan is very important for us, as women. Today, we preserve our culture in Rojava.”
Struggle for freedom of Abdullah Öcalan
Cihan Mustefa spoke about the ongoing attacks in Kurdistan and said, “The aim of the Turkish state and conspiratorial forces is to take our achievements. They want to leave us without identity, culture, language and country. As we said many times before, we are not the old Kurds. The Turkish state should understand that we are the Kurds who strengthen ourselves with leader Apo's ideology. The Turkish state aims to commit genocide against the Kurds so that it resurrects the Ottoman Empire. But we keep struggling for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and to reunite Kurdistan.”
