Women of Kobanê plant trees to welcome IWD
Women of Kobanê, a city in the Euphrates Canton of North and East Syria, planted trees to welcome International Women’s Day (IWD).

Kobanê- Women’s organizations and movements in Kobanê continue to hold activities and events to celebrate International Women’s Day. The Environment Authority in Kobanê held a tree planting activity on Tuesday.
A number of women from organizations and institutions of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) attended the activity, by planting one hundred oak trees in the village of Minas, west of Kobanê.
“International Women’s Day is a day of victory for women demanding rights, justice and equality,” said Almaz Rumi, Co-chair of the Environment Authority in Kobanê. “We have planted trees today because there is a strong bond between women and nature. We have planted one hundred oak trees because leader Abdullah Öcalan attaches great importance to nature and planting oak trees.”
Women in Kobanê annually plant trees from March 8 to April 1, Almaz Rumi told us. “As the Environment Authority in Kobanê, we attach great importance to planting trees to increase the green spaces in Kobani as much as possible.”
