Tunisian women hold their 13th congress

Tunisian Association of Democratic Women held its 13th congress. During the congress, women remembered Egyptian feminist writer Nawal El Saadawi. Human rights lawyer Radhia Nasraoui received an award for her works.

Tunisian Association of Democratic Women held its 13th congress. During the congress, women remembered Egyptian feminist writer Nawal El Saadawi. Human rights lawyer Radhia Nasraoui received an award for her works.

Tunisia - Tunisian Association of Democratic Women (L'Association tunisienne des femmes démocrates -ATFD) held its 13th congress on June 25 with the motto, “Feminist Revolution Wins Against Old Tradition”. An award was given in memory of Egyptian feminist writer Nawal El Saadawi, who died on March 21, 2021. A video telling the life of Nawal El Saadawi was shown during the congress.

Award given to Radhia Nasraoui

Khadija Chérif, a human rights activist and one of the founders of the ATFD, gave an award to human rights lawyer Radhia Nasraoui. Tunisian Organization Against Torture Chairperson Radhia Nasraoui attended the congress despite suffering from Alzheimer's disease for years and pandemic conditions.

“She sacrifices her life for this cause”

Khadija Chérif spoke to our news agency and she said, “Respecting Radhia Nasraoui is the primary duty of our association. She sacrifices her life for the protection of women's rights in various fields. In the past, she was tortured but she never took a step back.”
