Syrian Interim Government evacuates residents from Al-Sumariya neighborhood homes
In Damascus' Al-Sumariya neighborhood, mostly Alawite, Syrian Interim Government gave residents 24 hours to evacuate, causing unrest
News Center – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported tensions erupted in Damascus’ Al-Sumariya neighborhood, predominantly Alawite.
The unrest followed an order for residents to evacuate their homes within 24 hours.
Residents stated their homes were marked for demolition. An official named Abu Hudhaifa informed them that houses marked in green would be demolished in the coming hours, causing fear and anxiety.
Residents confirmed this is a deliberate pressure tactic to force them to leave and indicated an intention to change the demographic composition of Alawite neighborhoods.
The Syrian Observatory noted that HTS militants are increasing pressure on residents by controlling and restricting their movement. They recently built a complete barrier wall around the neighborhood, further limiting residents’ mobility
