Statement by Imrali Delegation after meeting with Minister of Justice

A delegation of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) met Turkish Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç on Thursday morning. After the meeting, the members of the delegation gave information about the meeting.

Ankara- The Imrali Delegation, consisting of Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Group Deputy chairs Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Sezai Temelli and DEM Party Human Rights Commission Co-chair Deputy Öztürk Türkdoğan, had a meeting with Türkiye’s Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç at 10:30 AM.

‘We will have the chance to see some developments in the upcoming period’

After the meeting, DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit gave information about the meeting, stating that they demanded better conditions be provided for Mr. Öcalan. “We will have the chance to see some developments in the upcoming period,” said Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit.

At the meeting, the members of the delegation also demanded not only the Imrali Delegation but also other people such as politicians, writers, academics and journalists be allowed to visit Abdullah Öcalan in the prison island of Imrali and the lift of isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. Another issue discussed at the meeting was the situation of sick prisoners. “We demanded the release of sick prisoners,” said Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit.

Another issue discussed at the meeting was the disciplinary punishments used against political prisoners. “The prisoners face disciplinary punishments for organizing protests to demand justice and improvement of the conditions in prisons. We expressed that disciplinary punishments against political prisoners are unacceptable because they affect their conditional release.”
