Security forces attack teachers, civil servants in Sulaymaniyah

Security forces attacked teachers and civil servants holding a demonstration to demand their unpaid salaries in Sulaymaniyah on Thursday, arresting many protesters, including journalists.

Sulaymaniyah- Teachers and civil servants held a demonstration in the city of Sulaymaniyah on Thursday to demand their unpaid salaries; however, security forces attacked them and arrested many protesters, including journalists.

The Kurdistan Regional Government has not paid the salaries of teachers and civil servants for more than two months.

The teachers and civil servants held the demonstration in front of the building of the General Directorate of Education in the city.

Call for release of journalists

Journalists covering the demonstration are also among the arrested people. The Metro Center for Journalists' Rights and Advocacy has released a statement, demanding the immediate release of the journalists.
