Istanbul - Members of the Human Rights Association (IHD) and Human Rights Foundation of Turkey gathered in front of the Çağlayan Courthouse to mark the International Week of the Enforced Disappeared (May 17-31). They released a statement and demanded the opening of Galatasaray Square, the center of their 28-year struggle against the disappeared in police custody.

Hanife Yıldız, the mother of Murat Yıldız who was 19 when he disappeared in police custody in Izmir in 1995, made a speech after the statement. “My son was alive when he was taken into custody,” she said in her speech, “I want to call on Süslü Sülü (Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu); open the Galatasaray Square.”

After her speech, police demand the people to leave the area. Hanife Yıldız was taken into custody by police while she was leaving the area.
