Siirt- Political prisoners held in Türkiye’s prisoners face rights violations. The isolation imposed on them especially in S-type and R-type prisons has recently intensified; sick prisoners are denied access to treatment. The prisoners are deprived of their right to health and life. Although there are thousands of sick prisoners, they are not released from prison.

Güllü Daşçı, who needs a heart transplant and has been receiving treatment for years, is one of these prisoners. Her mother, Leyla Daşçı, demands the release of her daughter and all sick prisoners.

Güllü Daşçı was arrested in 2016 and transferred to the prison in Mardin and then to the prison Diyarbakır. She went on a hunger strike for about 90 days. While she was on the hunger strike, she vomited blood and began to experience health problems. After a short time, she was diagnosed with an enlarged heart. She needs a heart transplant and has to receive an injection once a month and often go to Ankara to receive treatment, her mother told NuJINHA.

In an interview with NuJINHA, Leyla Daşçı gave information about the current health condition of her daughter, Güllü Daşçı. Leyla Daşçı is the mother of two prisoners, Güllü Daşçı and Kasım Daşçı. “My son was sentenced to five years in prison and he has already served two years and nine months in prison. My daughter has also been held in prison for years and she will be released from prison three years later. My son and my daughters are held in different prisons and their family visits are on the same day. We divide the family to visit both.”

‘Güllü needs a heart transplant’

The health of Güllü Daşçı has been deteriorating, Leyla Daşçı told us. “Güllü began to suffer from health problems after being arrested. Her heart began to enlarge and she suffers from heart problems. She cannot stay in prison because she cannot meet her basic needs in prison. She receives an injection once a month. She receives treatment but the conditions in prison have been deteriorating her health. She is often transferred to a hospital in Ankara.”

Call to end torture!

Leyla Daşçı demands the release of not only her daughter but also all sick prisoners. “Sick prisoners are released from prison when they are about to die. Today, thousands of people struggle to survive in prison. As their families, all we demand is to raise your voices for sick prisoners.”
